Spasmodic movement of the diaphragm caused by an irritation in the diaphramatic region!. Can be caused by not drinking enough, eating too fast, burping, laughing etc!.

The diaphragm is the thing below your lungs - It contracts quickly, causing the lungs to expand very fast, drawing air involuntarily down through the throat!. This causes the 'hic' noise and explains why you can't predict when the next one will come!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

scientifically, it is when you eat and there is air!.!.!.when you swallow your food, it is not advisable to breath, cause the food will enter your lungs, the result is hiccupsWww@Answer-Health@Com
