Question: Does doctor confidentiality include teens!?
I am 17 years old and it is nothing serious but i think i have ADD!. I have been reading online and the symptoms match mine!. I want to speak to my doctor about it but i don't want my parents to find out because they already make feel bad as it is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it is ADD, why wouldn't you want your parents to know!?
The doctor can suggest prescriptions or other therapy to help you and possibly your parents would cut you some slack if they knew that you weren't just being a teenager and that there was a reason for your attention span!.!.!.
As long as what you confide doesn't include hurting yourself or others you are covered!. Otherwise it is known as "Duty to Warn" and the doctor, nurse, ect have to report it!.!.!.( If it is illegal and can harm someone or yourself you aren't covered by doctor confidentiality or HIPPA like stated above)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm in the state of Illinois and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor!. In my state if my patient is age 12 or older I do not have to inform the parents about what we talk about!. There are 3 exceptions to the rule!. 1!. if you tell me your going to kill yourself
