I have COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) caused purely by smoking!. My current lung capacity is 40% - in other words I am functioning on less than half a lung!.

At your age if someone had told me that I would end up in hospital nearly dying because my body cells were so short of Oxygen I would have laughed!.

Even though I do not have Cancer the irony is that I once worked in a cancer hospital and a surgical theatre dealing with arterial disease and know more about the effects of smoking than most!.

If you don't have anything like COPD - see your doctor and get a check, especially if you are coughing a bit more than usual - if you stop smoking now nicotine will be out of your system within 72hrs, your skin will look more healthy in a month, you will feel better and cleaner, your lung capacity should increase by 10% in 9 months and in 7 years your life expectancy will be the same as that of a non-smoker!.

I'm not going to tell you that you must give up smoking!. It is your choice!. I just hope you may learn something from my (bad) example!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, I think it is said that after about 10 years your lungs are similar to a non smokers!.

Your skin will improve too - your complexion won't look as grey/pallid!.

I was smoking 20 day for 25 years up until 8 months ago!. I've already noticved the difference - I look and feel much healthier!.

The NHS has a grat website for those wanting to stop!.

Good luck in giving up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes there will be healing and you will look and feel better!. You have done some damage to you body by smoking and not all of it is going to go away completely, but the improvement in your health makes quitting worth the effort!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you stop now things will improve, this improvement follows an upward curve, but never quite meets the curve of an individual who has never smoked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
