Does Osha require 2 washer/dryer units when contaminated and non- contaminated l!

Question: Does Osha require 2 washer/dryer units when contaminated and non- contaminated laudry is being done?
I work at an ambulance service and we are trying to find the Osha regulation, if there is one, for washing laundry. We don't believe we should be washing our bedding and or uniforms in the same washer/dryer as the one we wash comtaminated towels/blankets/ gurney straps, etc. If anyone knows the specific Osha guideline # please include it in your answer.

Answers:

At the service where I work, linen spider straps, etc. used on the ambulance is washed separately from towels, and bedding used by the crew.

I have searched for the OSHA guidelines, and it all seems to be geared toward laundry that is shipped out to a service. I could find several SOPs from various fire departments and nursing homes saying that contaminated clothing will not be brought home to launder, but nothing dealing with what you're asking.

We were told that the washer for contaminated linens was an OSHA or state DOL requirement, but I have never seen the actual reg.

I'm afraid the best I can suggest is that you try your state department of labor, you don't have to file a complaint against your employer, they will answer questions for you.

EDIT: Here is an article about a new NFPA standard for fire stations:http://firechief.com/hazmat/ar/laundry-l…
