Question: Anyone ever accidentally got hummingbird food on their lip and suffered a BAD high?
(sorry didn't know where to put this so i put it where people would know about the body)
Answers:
Commercial "hummingbird food" often contains artificial dyes and preservatives. Only an allergist could tell you if you had an allergic reaction to one of these ingredients, but hummingbirds don't need those chemicals any more than you do. A much safer way to fill your hummingbird feeder is with 1 part white table sugar dissolved in 4 parts water.
Most hummingbird food is just sugar and water with a color added. One time I drank a lot of it (thought it was really good Kool-Aid at the time) and everyone thought it was funny that I didn't know what it was. I did have a sugar buzz. Most likely if it's bird food there wouldn't be anything in it your human body wouldn't be able to handle. Read the bottle or container (if you have it) and see if there are any precautions or a phone # you can call. Also would be good to ask a family member or anyone in your household if they know for sure what it is.
