Ok I over heard my parents talking about my brother..?!

Question: Ok I over heard my parents talking about my brother..?
They were talking about how he found a lump in his balls. This is really awkward for me to post (im only 13) but it worries me because i've always heard a lump means cancer. If its cancer is he going to die?? hes 22. We arent really close or anything but we are close enough I care.Nobodys said anything about it to me yet all I know is that he is going to the dr. next week. I dont want to ask my parents or him about it. If its cancer will he die????? or is there a strong possibility??

Answers:

A close friend of mine found a lump in his scrotum a few months ago. Everybody thought it was cancer and he was even getting ready to move to California so he could get on the medical marijuana program. Turns out it was actually a third testicle ! Point of the story: lump doesn't always mean cancer ^_^

There are many reasons for lumps anywhere in the body. Do not panic please. Even if it was cancer it doesn't mean a tragic ending. There are surgeries and therapies and many survivors around the world.

Of course the best thing is to ask your parents because you need to calm down and have the right to know the truth. Also, if it was a life and death matter he wouldn't wait a week to meet the Dr.

Hang in there and ask about what's going on. Don't let your imagination run wild.

Good luck.

I'm not a doctor, but worst-case scenario, if your brother has testicular cancer, that type is supposed to be highly treatable. Your parents may not have said anything to you about it as not to upset you and since your brother hasn't gotten a diagnosis. The lump may also be benign with means harmless or innocuous.

Not all lumps are cancerous, and the cancer you are worried about, called "testicular cancer" is actually very treatable...If this is even the case. It could also be something very simple like a cyst. Tell your parent's you overheard their conversation. I know you are probably completely freaked out, but don't panic. The most likely situation is that you brother will be completely fine! Good luck, and best wishes.
