What can I do about my sinuses?!

Question: What can I do about my sinuses?
The past month I've been having horrible sinus issues. I wake up every morning with a stuffy nose. My sinus cavities in my cheekbones always feel tender and full. I constantly have mucus draining in my throat (sorry it sounds gross, I don't know how else to explain it). Sometimes I just feel so tired and lightheaded from all the pressure. I have tried every over the counter medication and nothing seems to work very well. I may try making a homemade netti pot but I'm not sure if that is just a saline solution or what? Does anyone have any suggestions to help with these horrible sinuses? Thanks bunches!

Answers:

Taking over the counter meds will only be temporary and will only make your sinuses even worst. Since these meds in due time will be habitual and sooner or later your system will become immuned to it in such a way that your urge to look for more stronger meds will most likely occur. I suggest you have your sinus area examined. Have you had any ailment before in that area? You could be nose blowing too hard before, that you fractured some of the tiny bones along the sinus area. For a safe remedy but still temporary, I suggest you inhale mist from boiling water with a pinch of salt. This procedure if done before retiring at night soothens the cavity area of the sinuses and helps loosen the clogged portion of the sinuses. Do this daily for 3 to 5 mins and you will find it very helpful.

Try the following measures to help reduce congestion in your sinuses:
Apply a warm, moist washcloth to your face several times a day. Drink plenty of fluids to thin the mucus. Inhale steam 2 - 4 times per day (for example, sitting in the bathroom with the shower running). Spray with nasal saline several times per day. Use a humidifier. Be careful with over-the-counter spray nasal decongestants. They may help at first, but using them beyond 3 - 5 days can actually worsen nasal congestion.
Also, for sinus pain or pressure:
Avoid flying when you are congested. Avoid temperature extremes, sudden changes in temperature, and bending forward with your head down. Try acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
