1) I am really sorry for you. I wish you all the best, and let's hop that you're going to recover. I would keep my fingers crossed for you.

2) Tell him/her that there is something you ned to tell them, and they need to sit down, and promise you that they won't scream or burst crying. Then you make the feeling that the conversation needs to go serious (which it is), keep silence for a few seconds, and then slowly say it. That way you would give them time before and after the sentence to think about it, and then to ask you more questions.

You better be sure before you confirm it, other than that I would just say that you have a serious illness
