Horrible burning in my stomach and pain....what could it be?!

Question: Horrible burning in my stomach and pain....what could it be?
Yesterday as I was getting ready for my son's 5th bday party I got a horrible burning like pain in my stomach. It lasted all day, I could barely eat. I took a Tyelenol because I also had pains on my left side, which happened to me last month....I had a CT scan and they told me it was normal. I got a copy of it and it said that my colon was slightly inflamed (which could be due to infection) and a cyst on my uterus. I assume they didn't tell me about it, because it is nothing to worry about. Well, now I have this awful burning pain in my stomach and it feels like I have been punched in the stomach. Yesterday I was in so much pain, I was getting dizzy and horrible hot flashes. Today not so bad, the pain on my left side is almost gone...but now the burning is starting to come back slowly. Yesterday I took some TUMS also, and didn't do anything. I am afraid that the pain is going to come back like yesterday. Has this happened to anybody? Or anybody have a clue what this could be??? I don't have a fever, and other than the stomach pain I'm fine...besides a headach that I've been getting on and off sinse Thursday.

Your symptoms sound like gastritis. It is a generic diagnosis that describe a host of symptoms caused by inflammation of the stomach's lining.
It is usually caused by excessive use of pain killers (eg ibuprofen), infections or bacteria, specifially h. pylori (ulcers).

Since the gut is linked to your brain through serotonin, it does not suprise me that you feel headaches and dizzy spells.

There are many useful test that can check for any of these problems including blood tests, stool tests, breath tests and upper endoscopy.

I don't believe your issues are in the colon (divertucolosis) or issues with your small intestine. See a gastro if you continue with your problems.

There are many treatments that will make you feel better including rx antacids and if needed therapy for bacteria.

Good luck.

I had similar symptoms about 11 years ago. It got worse and worse, until I finally broke down and saw a gastroenterologist. He ran a scope down there and found that I had a hiatal hernia and acid reflux ("GERD disease"). He put me on medication and that more or less solved the problem.

You need to go see a gastroenterologist very soon. The doctor said if I hadn't seen a doctor, then it could have turned cancerous due to the stomach acid eroding my esophagus. Honestly, I don't think I had much choice but to go because the burning pain was getting too bad to suffer through. I drank water and ate TUMS like crazy trying to stop it, but it didn't help.

Good luck, and go see your stomach doctor!
