Is anyone else thouroughly confused about vaccinations?!

Question: Is anyone else thouroughly confused about vaccinations?
My pediatrician states that she will not treat a child who isn't vaccinated.

Most of my friends DO NOT vaccinate, my MIL is all for it...

I have all sorts of info on both sides of the argument, for all different types of vaccinations.

I have overwhelmed myself to the point of tears- I vaccinated my oldest son and he's doing fine, but there are new ones since he was born.

I used to be a 'follow doc's orders' sort of mom, but I've changed my ways a bit. I don't believe everything they tell me on this one.

My maternal instinct is drawing a blank here...I am not looking for info or evidence supporting either side of the argument.

I am simply wondering if any other moms find this confusing and overwhelming, and are having a tough time finding an option that works for them.

I feel like I have to choose between the lesser of two evils: autism, or risk of some horrific disease? No thanks...how the hell is a mom supposed to choose here?

Answers:

I felt that way at one point. Then I came to decide between this: whatever you choose, you MUST be able to accept the potential consequences.
For me: Not vaccinating was a no brainer. Even if my children were exposed to something like Measels, I feel confident that they have a better fighting chance against it with their intact immune systems (and our great health care system), and that the chances of them dying from it were far less than a vaccine related death.
So, in the end, if we chose to vaccinate and odds are *something* would go wrong at some point, I couldn't live with myself knowing what I know about the potential side-effects and having gone ahead with the shots anyways.
Worst case scenario: My child dies from either or, I could better tolerate a death from a disease than from a shot. Thats just my opinion. Others here may think the risk of a shot is less because it protects...well, I don't believe they are as effective as the world makes them seem so my opinion is different.
Also, for those that defend that we all had our shots and we're fine arguement....back when us adults had our shots, the schedule had way fewer vaccines and they were all separated, thus making reactions much more rare. It's the combining that makes them so much more deadly then they ever were.

If I were to suggest anything to a parent wanting to vaccinate and feeling confident about their choice, it would be to pay the $$ to have the shots separated and administered one at a time over a few years.

**and to your doctor who refuses treating you: find someone else. They know they won't make as much money off of you if your children are healthier from being unvaccinated so they won't accept you. Find who your friends take their unvaxed kids to and go there....or don't worry for now. Doctors aren't mandatory anyways. Take all the time you need to make your choice here and then find a doc who wither supports you or who'll leave you alone on the issue.

Vaccines don't cause autism. Any "info" you have supporting this is outdated or inaccurate. The link between vaccines and autism has been soundly disproven. In fact, the original study suggesting this turned out to be a fraud, and the doctor behind it has had his medical license revoked.

The decision to vaccinate should be based on evidence and facts, not on what your friends are doing or what your maternal instinct says. And the evidence says that vaccines do far more good than harm.

And as a person on the autism spectrum, I'm offended that you consider autism evil.
