What do i do with my filter cartridge during ich/ick treatment?!

Question: What do i do with my filter cartridge during ich/ick treatment?
The medicine I bought (tetra brand, lifeguard) says to remove filter carbon. But the filter cartridge my filter uses consists of just one pad with the carbon built into the two layers of the pad.

So what do i do? Should I remove the cartridge entirely? wouldn't that just circulate the dirty water around since there is no filter pad? Couldn't I just remove or turn off the entire filter unit?

Is it okay if I cut open the cartridge and remove the carbon? thanks in advance

This is for aquarium fish. You take the filter out entirely, then let the medication circulate. Don't worry about the dirty water. You can turn off the filter unit if you like. I usually leave the air pump going and just remove the filter part.

Don't mess with the filter cartridge, you will just have to throw it away.

The reason for taking out the carbon part is that the medication will be adsorbed onto the activated charcoal if you leave it in. They are not thinking about your having a combined filter cartridge. Sometimes the activated charcoal is separate.
