At what point should I go to the doctor for this?!

Question: At what point should I go to the doctor for this?
This morning I had pain on the right side of my chest while breathing in. An hour or two later, I've developed a cough. At first it was painful but now I'm getting some phlegm and... it's not as painful but it still hurts. I have asthma... and last year I had walking pneumonia... so, my mom is kind of freaking out and wants to take me to the doctors straight away. When would this be something that actually needs medical attention so I can convince her not to waste a trip to the doctor's?

Answers:

First of all if your phlegm is any color but clear it needs to be checked out. If its any color variation of green/yellow/brown you could have an infection. Also check if you have a fever, that's also an indicator of infection. If your pain or cough increases with any of the above sypmtoms then it warrants a visit especially with your history of walking pneumonia. P.S. it is flu season

I believe you should go to the doctor anyway. You have asthma so you shouldn't ignore any signs of health problem especially when its related to your lungs.
