Can I get sick from an infected cut?!

Question: Can I get sick from an infected cut?
I cut myself multiple times with a razor blade on my hips (it wasn't dirty like I found it on the ground, but it wasn't super clean either. It was kinda old too)... now I'm sick with a fever and other symptoms. Could it be related? I don't think it is but I'm wondering.
By the way the cuts look like they could be infected but they aren't oozing or anything.

Answers:

It can definitely be related, if the cut is infected and the infection can then go into the blood. Is the area surrounding the cuts red and slightly inflamed? Another concerning sign would be if there are red streak-like marks around the cuts as well. You should definitely wash the cuts with warm soap and water and apply an antibiotic ointment - either bacitracin or neosporin (whichever is on hand) and I would see a doctor, especially if you have a fever.

Yes, you can. I would wash the wound with water and use some Neosporin. It would also be good to see a doctor.

Mr. M on "infected."
