I am getting a blood test but I have some questions? First time?!

Question: I am getting a blood test but I have some questions? First time?
In two more days, I'm having a routine blood test (checking for anemia, thyroid, etc) plus a urine test. But I have three questions:

* My doctor ordered me to fast 12 hrs. and said that night-time is the best time to fast (not to eat after 8:00 p.m.) because I'll be sleeping anyways. But, should I not consume anything even liquids after 8:00 p.m. or should I drink water?

* When I go in for my appt, I'll also be getting a urine test. Should I pee in the morning anyways or hold it when I wake up so that I will be able to pee for the test?

* After the blood test, will I be feeling faint? Should I bring cookies and juice myself so I can eat/drink afterwards?

Answers:

*drink water but dont over do it
*hold you pee for the urnie test
* lod tests affect people differently; i myself have never felt fait but you might so make sure that you do bring snacks just in case

experiance

lt's best to drink lots of water to make your veins swell up and become more prominent. l didn't eat or drink anything before my blood test and they couldn't draw any blood out and it became painful after a while so make sure you drink plenty of water! For the urine test, l would imagine they'd want you to do that a bit later as water can dilute your urine. You will not feel faint, make sure you eat before you are fasting (something high in sugar, like an apple/banana.)

No liquids, but a small amount of water.
I would pee in the morning anyway. If he wanted a first morning urine he would have given you
a sterile cup and you could do it at home. Some can't wait that long.
Some feel faint or weak after blood work. Others are not bothered at all. You can bring a
few crackers, cookies, candy or what you choose. Some need nothing after.

You should probably call your doctor and ask them. The procedures are different depending on what exactly they are testing for. You will probably not feel faint but you can bring a cookie just in case.
