I am having chest pains, what's the most likely cause?!

Question: I am having chest pains, what's the most likely cause?
It feels like I am having a stitch but I have not been doing anything! Plus I am not overweight. I have asthma but its not asthma because I can breathe fine.

Answers:

Can you be a little more specific? Your chest is a pretty big area.

A stitch usually is a pain in your side just below your ribs caused by exercise without warm up (running or jumping jacks).

Angina feels like a tight band cranking down on your chest at about the level of your armpits. All the way across your front and maybe your back.

Bronchitis is inflammation of your bronchial tubes in your lungs and can also cause chest pain.

Heart burn (indigestion) or acid reflux will also cause chest pain. Think about what you have eaten in the past few hours. Spicy or heavy foods can get you. Fatty foods will also cause problems.

IF it is your heart causing the chest pains, and you are over fifty, it might be a good idea to get to the hospital. You might call ahead and talk to the triage nurse. He/she can run through a litany of questions and tell you whether you need to come in.
