OK sooo I have a question about Xanax?!

Question: OK sooo I have a question about Xanax?
I hate even talking about this cause it makes me sound like a drug addict. But I just got prescribed some Xanax today cause I get severe panic attacks where I can't even think straight and start to act crazy. My question is, is it safe to take? I'm afraid that it will make my panic attack even worse. Like make my heart beat even faster since it's a drug. Also is it true that if you don't take it everyday, you can have serious withdrawal symptoms like seizure and even death? Right now I'm taking 0.5 mg. And I'm not even taking the whole pill, I'm gonna cut it in half. Or should I just take the whole pill? They're very small. Please help and give me some advice on this before I take this drug. Thankyou.

The doctor prescribed 0.5 mg for you and said what? Take a whole one whenever you start feeling anxious, or you know something is going to be happening and you need to be calm for it. My number two daughter takes a tab before she goes to the dentist or her MIL is coming to visit. My number three daughter takes them before a court appearance (for a traffic ticket) or when she was quitting smoking and really had the jitters.

Xanax is prescribed to DEAL with panic attacks, not cause them. ANY medication can have serious side effects if not taken properly. Your doctor or pharmacist should have told you all about this drug, and maybe even given you a print out to take home and refer to after you take a dose and get settled down.

Please go to http://www.drugs.com/dosage/xanax.html and read more about this medication and stop worrying!

BTW, the way this drug is prescribed depends on the purpose. If you are really falling apart you may need the three tabs daily. After you get yourself under control you may not need to take more than one a day or 'as needed' the way my girls do. Follow the doctor's instructions and check back with him/her if there are any concerns after a day or two.
