some guy back in the 20's named harry j anslinger made it illegal. he was the first commissioner of the federal bureau of narcotics and he managed to make it illegal in over 160 countries by using the media as his outlet.
one of the things thats WORSE than marijuana is CIGARETTES.

Check out Marijuana: A Chronic History. its a 2 hour special not only talking about its properties, but also the history behind it. very knowledgable about marijuana; best documentary ABOUT marijuana :) it comes on the history channel.
Since when is it bad for your health? Somebody is feeding you horse ca-ca (now that "is" bad for your health. Because the government cannot get a regulatory handle on it(like they did with alcohol and tobacco) they cannot tax it. That is why it is bad for your health. The government cannot benefit from the sale of it by having it grown in government control fields or regulated distilleries.
If we find a way to derive pleasure out of consuming "dirt" the government will outlaw that until they can tax it and sell it to us.
