Lymphocytes in the Small Intestine for Biopsy?!

Question: Lymphocytes in the Small Intestine for Biopsy?
My son had an endoscopy and they saw lymphocytes in his small intestine in the biopsy. I'm going to ask the doctor when I see her next, but what could that mean or indicate?

It may not mean anything. Lymphocytes (white blood cells) could easily be seen in tissue samples from the small intestine as part of the outer layer (epithelium). It could also mean an immune response has mounted against something in the GI tract; one possible cause is celiac disease. But I definitely wouldn't sweat it until the doctor explains the findings.
