Ever since childhood I have had difficulties swallowing certain foods. how come?!

Question: Ever since childhood I have had difficulties swallowing certain foods. how come?
For instance, when I eat raw carrots I cannot swallow them unless I eat something simple 8bread, crackers) at the same time. Same thing with beef (real beef, not ground).

I have the same problem (been that way all my life). I just found out last summer why from my doctor. He said it's because the passage way in the back of our throat is narrow instead of wide and it makes it hard for us to swallow just about any kinds of food. You & I and others need to take small bites and chew well, but yet I still make sure I have something else on hand in case I can't swallow. No, there is nothing that can be done to widen it either. Also, you are the first one that I have encountered in my life that has the same problem as I.

Maybe your not chewing your food/s well enough, and when it's time to swallowing...your having a tough time due to the fact your not chewing your food/s well enough. From what you've described...your swallowing well as far as breads,crackers..so you are able to swallow properly. But,the fact is...your not chewing your food/s well enough, and that is why your having such a difficult time swallowing.Carrots(raw especially) and raw beef, are both foods that must be chewed completely before being swallowed. My thought on the matter. If you were to actually have a serious swallowing problem? Them you would have difficulty swallowing all food/s in general...in my opinion.Take care.
