Neonatal Nurses, I need your help...?!

Question: Neonatal Nurses, I need your help...?
I'm doing a project for school and would LOVE to be a neonatal nurse when I grow up. I know you work specifically with newborns. I just have two questions for you :)
1. What do you do everyday at your job?
2. How does this job help benefit society?

Thanks!

Answers:

Everyday I take care of critically ill and preterm infants. My smallest patient was born at 23weeks and weighed on 14oz! I help care for these tiny babies to help give them a chance at life. I assess vital signs and am constantly monitoring for any changes in the baby's condition that need immediate attention. I also do a lot of teaching with parents about what to expect when their baby is the neonatal ICU. In this profession you must take care of the baby and the baby's parents. Parents are often very scared and not sure what to expect. Helping an infant grow and get better is the best feeling in the world. Especially when the odds are stacked against them, and they pull through anyway. Babies are so resilient, they are all miracles in my eyes.
