Why can't you donate blood after getting a piercing?!


Question: Why can't you donate blood after getting a piercing?
I've heard that you have to wait about four months before donating blood. I was just curious as to why, thanks.

It's because of the risk of HIV and Hepatitis C. I think the wait period is either 6 months or one year after tattoos and piercings, becuase donation centers want to make sure they can accurately test for these diseases to make sure the blood is safe for patients that need it.

Because of the chance of catching a blood-borne infection or virus, that's why.
