All nail polishes are made with chemicals, some worse than others. The three big ones to avoid are Toluene, Formaldehyde, DBP (phthalates). Brands such as Zoya, OPI, Nubar and Revlon are just some that don't contain these chemicals.

As for nail polish remover, Karma Organics Nail Polish Remover is the best. It is a little pricey but is so worth it. It's made from soybean oil and 100% biodegradable. The best part is it doesn't dry your nails out because it's oil based. And it smells nice too - it's available in Lavender, Tea Tree or non-scented (Lavender is my favourite!) And it works great - just one dab for all ten fingers!

This is were I purchase it from, it's the cheapest I've been able to find it:

There may be...but most are not safe..while drying. These have aromatic hydrocarbon solvents...such as toluene and acetone...really nasty stuff, that is bad for your lungs and liver, particularly. You couldn't pay me enough to work in a nail parlor...unless there were plenty of ventilation, gas-masks available and a large salary.

Regular nail polish isn't bad for you as long as you use it in a well ventilated area. After its dried, the chemicals are no longer harmful.
