Every person's biology is different. I know for a fact that I had an insatiable appetite (and still do) after I had been drinking diet sodas with aspartame for many years. My employer offered free soda pops. I drank 10-12 diet sodas every day for 15 years.
Aspartame and MSG are excitotoxins (Dr. Neal Barnard). MSG is injected into laboratory rats to make them overeat for the rest of their lives. Apparently, excitotoxins affect the hunger control regions of the brain. After going on a vegetarian diet, I have lost 80 pounds, but I still have an insatiable appetite that is difficult to control. Hunger, for me, comes in spurts.
There is more good news however. A pure vegetarian diet works to some extent. Read "Eat More, Weigh Less" by Dr. Dean Ornish. Many prominent researchers agree that a well-planned vegetarian diet is ideal for health and maintenance of an ideal weight. Read Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.
It will help to stop eating the Standard American Diet (SAD). Eliminate MSG and diet sodas. Eliminate excess oil and sugar. If you want to recover, I strongly suggest you learn about a pure vegetarian diet. Dr. Joel Fuhrman is my favorite author because he describes approaches that worked for me.
