Could the test be wrong?!

Question: Could the test be wrong?
I went into Planned Parenthood about three months ago to get checked out for STDs, not because I had symptoms, but just to be safe. I was sick at the time my appointment rolled around with what I believed was strep throat. I had a sore swollen throat with white patches in the back of my throat. I also had a slight cough, my nose was irritated, and I kept getting a headache.

When my tests came back, I came up as positive for Chlamydia which I came in and got medication for. I came back negative for everything else, except HIV. That was taking longer than they expected. I was getting really nervous about it. Eventually I got a call from them saying that there had been a complication with my test where it came out as positive until they did a more exact test that went looking specifically for HIV. That test came out negative. The woman on the phone explained how my sickness may have caused the first misreading.

However, since then I have had no sex and I keep coming down with strep like symptoms. I had had the symptoms once a few months before I went to get checked. It popped up again about a month ago. And tonight I find myself coming down with again. Is it possible the test was wrong and my immune system is weakened enough that I'm constantly getting sick due to HIV? Or is there another reason I keep getting the same symptoms over and over again?

To be honest, I don't think I would have bat an eyelid if it wasn't for the fact that the white spots have shown up each time. They're not tonsil stones and they're very like what is suppose to happen when a person gets strep. I never have had anything like them before getting them in the last year. I have only been sexually active in the last year as well.

It sounds to me like you are trying to mix apples and oranges. Your symptoms do sound like strep throat. It is extremely rare for HIV to begin showing this early into it's cycle. I cannot say it couldn't happen, I'm not a health care professional. But I have frequently heard that HIV takes quite a while to show up. It's also nearly impossible to get it from anything other than anal sex.

You need to go get a throat culture done. Some strains of streptocaucus can really be tenatious. You probably need a different antibiotic to finish the job. I had something like that about 20 years years ago. They couldn't figure out what it was, and every antibiotic they tried on me didn't work. Finally they gave me a very strong, broad-spectrum antibiotic, and that did it. I was ill from April to the end of October. So don't repeat that kind of experience.

Ask to be tested again when your not sick and/or get your strep throat checked out just to be safe
