Your heart beats faster in response to increased stressors. Both mentally and physically. As you get to moving your bodies oxygen needs increase. The increase demands in oxygen to various tissues require your body to increase the rate of respiration (breathing) in order to get that oxygenated blood quickly to the tissues that need it, the heart rate (pulse) speeds up. The mental stress I mentioned earlier also affect tissues. Your digestion, your brain, your heart etc. These tissues that have been affected also need more oxygen, the heart rate and respiration speed up in a similar fashion to supply these tissues with oxygenated blood.
