Can a 15 year old have a thyroid problem?!

Question: Can a 15 year old have a thyroid problem?
For the past year and a half, I've been gaining weight. I've gained about 30 pounds total. When it first started I thought I was just eating too much. I started exercising (I run like 4-7 miles a day + strength work) and cut down a little on the food. I may not eat really healthy, but I've written down everything I ate and added up the calories and there's no possible way I should be gaining that much. I understand that at first it was muscles, and I am really muscular, but it's not still that. My grandma, grandpa, aunt and 2 uncles all had thyroid cancer (all blood related), so it runs in the family. I'm a young active girl, so I really don't see any other explanation for this sudden weight gain.

i can see why you would be worried for your age, and i can see that's it's not normal. i don't no much about thyroid cancer but here is a link for you to have a look at. i do hope it is just your body changing or something and not thyroid problem cause i know you don't want it.
i would also suggest to see a doctor.

I have suspected hyperthyroidism and I'm 14. I'm actually going for some tests to check if I have a thyroid problem on Thursday. It sounds like you have the opposite, an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It may be something entirely different or a growth spurt though, but seeing as it's in your family it's likely. It runs in my family too. I'm sure we'll both be fine with the correct treatment. Good luck, I hope everything goes well for you!

Yes, a 15 year old can have a thyroid problem and that is what it is sounding like you having a problem with. I would go to the doctor and let them know what is going on and your family history with it. They will take a simple test and let you know what is up. If that is the problem, maybe something else is going on in your body that they can help with.

Good friend had thyroid problems and started taking medicine for it around the age of 14 years old.
