As long as your doctor gave you the OK to do cardio exercise, that's great exercise!! If you can slowly work up to 25 minutes or more, that would be great! You should break a good sweat!
Keep up the good work. Once again, I must stress that you must be sure your doctor wants you to be doing cardio exercise, and how much.:)

Your cardiologist will set a target heart rate for you. Immediately after surgery it is quite low, after healing, in most cases, your target heart rate will increase to the same formula as for a healthy person. This formula is usually given as THR = (220-age)*0.6
However, only your cardiologist can tell you when it is safe to exercise, and how much to exercise.
The important point is that time spent at your target heart rate is the important number, not how many steps it takes to reach it.
