Is Xanax safer than alcohol if you take it before partys to eliminate anxiety in!

Question: Is Xanax safer than alcohol if you take it before partys to eliminate anxiety instead of having to get drunk?
I only drink at parties or social situations because of how bad my social anxiety is. My doctor offered me xanax to take ONLY when needed but he said I can't take them until I'm off roaccutane (Which I come off in about another month and for those of you that don't know, roaccutane/accutane is an acne drug, and i dont even have acne but its just to clear my chest and back a bit)

Anyway if xanax really works for anxiety like people say it does then I won't have to drink at partys, I can just take a xanax before the party instead of turning up to partys drunk! Is xanax safer than alcohol in moderation though?

Answers:

I don't want to say Xanax is safer.

Xanax has a buzz effect similar to alchohol, and other effects could include decreased coordination, unawareness, short term memory loss, etc.

I wouldn't really substitite Xanax for alcohol because that's not what the drug is intended to do. But consuming one .25mg pill or whatever, is not going to kill you.

It's safer, but if you haven't taken it before, it's gonna put you down. And, I, for some reason, doubt that you won't end up with a few drinks in you to boot.

Don't do it until you've taken it a few times in a controlled setting.

Experience, and I have panic attacks/anxiety myself.
