can a pharmacy sell you medicine without a prescription?!


Question: Can a pharmacy sell you medicine without a prescription?
im taking some medication and now i ran out of them, i dont have a regular doctor but i do see one on a regular basis

the pharmacy has been calling the hospital where the doctors sees me but they havent gotten a response towards my refills for my medication

any info. would help, thanks

Technically, no. If it's a medication that's sold over the counter (take ibuprofen [Advil] for example), and you need it prescription strength (1000mg+), then you just have to take five 200mg Advils to reach that amount. If it's something like Percocet or Demerol, or anything that you can't buy normally, then you need a prescription.



If the medicine is available in a non prescription strength then this can be purchased over the counter. If not you need the script.
