Am I going totally deaf?!

Question: Am I going totally deaf?
I have had mild hearing loss my whole life (both ears), and starting a couple days ago, my ears started ringing, my hearing is going away and I'm getting dizzy more and more often... I don't do any drugs or anything, and I don't listen to music with headphones.

It's gotten to the point where I can't hear certain letters almost at all! I asked my dad and he said it was probably nothing, and to wait it out, but I'm starting to get really scared that I am really going totally deaf! What should I do? I'm scared! ='(

Seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY. Sudden ringing, sudden hearing loss and sudden dizziness are all red flag warnings for serious neurological disorders. It sounds to me what you are experiencing might be menieres disease. It happens when the fluid in your cochlea becomes imbalanced. When your cochlea gets a rush of too much fluid it produces sudden ringing and dizziness and makes sound suddenly sound muffled, then it goes away. Left unchecked it will only get worse and the increased pressure in your cochlea will over time degrade your low frequency hearing permanently. It could also be a lot of other things, some serious and some not serious but you need to find out what is causing this because you have a lot of red flags. Please have your parents make an appointment with an ear, nose and throat doctor. Best of luck to you!

I am an Audiology doctoral student

i say go and see a doctor and get you a hearing aid fitted if that doesnt help then its gotta be something else have you tried squirting warm water into your ears that will clean them out i had a problem with my ears i thort i was going deaf in 1 ear i squirted warm water into my ears with a surindge (simular to a needle but without the needle) this lump of wax came out and then i could hear clearly again it does work trust me

You need to see a doctor. Rapid hearing loss such as what you describe can be due to infections or swelling in your ear that must be treated before the hearing loss becomes permanent. Call your doctor or go to the emergency room in the morning.

Waiting it out is a bad idea. You need treatment to prevent the hearing loss from becoming permanent.

If your father refuses, tell the nurse at school.

could be a inner ear infection i would go see a doctor if you have insurance and how old are you? i would go see a doctor i dont think it is nothing serious hope you get to feeling better i would just go get checked out first.........
