Going to a concert with hearing loss?!

Question: Going to a concert with hearing loss?
I was wondering how bad an idea going to a concert is with already severe hearing loss. I brought ear plugs but how much does that protect? I was born with sensor nureal (sp) hearing loss. I just wanted to experience it but I dont want to take a huge risk

Answers:

Concerts are usually about 110 dB. Run of the mill commercial type arena concerts (not heavy metal concerts with too much sound system in a much too small bar type) Arenas need to appeal to the masses and usually aren't excruciatingly loud. You should be fine with proper hearing protection. Make sure you get a good earplug with 26-32 NRR rating. The biggest thing about earplugs is proper insertion! They must be deeply seated in order to provide all the attenuation they promise so practice putting them on in a mirror so you will know how they are supposed to fit snd feel. You may want to talk to an audiologist about making you a custom set of earplugs to protect your hearing in other situations like mowing the grass, or other loud situations. Best of luck and enjoy the concert!
