Help with my sick little brother?!

Question: Help with my sick little brother?
I'm 15 and my little brother is 12 and he has been sick since this morning at around 5 a.m. I found him silently crying because he has an ear ache. Well our mom slept with him last night because that's what she always does when were sick to help us calm down and relax. Well she was also drunk and it didn't help Brody any. Our dad is at work and doesnt know brody is sick and mom is still in a hangover. He isnt like dying or anything but he does feel bad. His ear hurts nose is stufffed up,sore throat and got sick this morning.has a temperature of 101. And I can't take him too the doctor because well i'm only 15 and mom isn't going too obviously and dad doesn't get off until later on.. I'm the only one available and sober enough to take care of him. I've given him liquids and stuff so he don't get deydrated and I gave him some chicken noodle soup to make him feel better. now he's sleepy but is so upset he can't sleep. He's very clingy too me right now and doesn't want me to leave him. Which I'm not going too. It sucks because i do feel sorry for him.I'm trying to be a good and resposible brother and We share a good brotherly bond and I want to help him fall asleep and get better. Any ideas? I have gien him tylenol and Motrin but they don't make him sleepy btw. I just need ideas to help him calm down and relax and rest. He does have PTSD.(Post traumatic stress Disorder.) If that tells you anything. I think that's why he's so upset..

To me it sounds like your brother is suffering a fever. It looks like you're doing everything right at the moment, keep giving him fluids and I know its hard to feed someone with a sore throat, but make sure he's getting some nutrition in him. Chicken noodle soup is a good choice. I suffer from more sore throats than I can count, toast and butter always seemed easy enough to force down.

Keep a close eye on his temperature and make sure its not rising. Try giving him a lukewarm bath. If he's shivering it's too cold, but you don't want it too hot either or it'll keep his body temperature from going down.

It's good your giving him medication but be very careful not to over medicate him. Read the instructions on the bottle carefully.

If his temperature reaches 103 or higher you may want to force your mom to wake up. Give her a glass of OJ and tell her to take a shower. A high fever can be a dangerous thing, and 101 is already pushing the limits for a younger child.

Here's a good site on treating a fever: http://coldflu.about.com/od/whentoseeadoctor/ss/checksymfever.htm

Here's one for hangovers:

you sound like a good big brother :) you can give one pill of benedryl (it is an allergy medication, but it makes you very tired). Make sure you read the label because there might be drug interactions with tylenol.

I urge you to telephone your father at work and tell him exactly what is going on! He needs to know about this -- for lots of reasons -- and is in the position to be able to take positive action for brother and to advise you about it, too! PICK UP THE PHONE!
