Why can't people with auto-immune diseases donate bone marrow?!

Question: Why can't people with auto-immune diseases donate bone marrow?
I would love to be on bone marrow donor. But,it says on the site that you can't if you have a auto-immune disease.I'm just wondering what is the medical reason for this?Is it because the person receiving the donation could develop the donors autoimmune disease?

Answers:

Because auto immune diseases are IN the marrow, and yes, you could give the disease to the patient. They wont let you be a donor if you have most any disease or disorder that effects your blood or marrow or immune system. The transplant essentially replaces the patient's blood, marrow, and immune system with that of the donor's, so the patient can develop any disease that the donor had that effected those things.

In some cases, it may be because it would be dangerous for the donor themselves to donate.

Some auto immune diseases can actually be treated with the same transplant.

...

had the transplant for leukemia

uh yea
