Question: Blood is this normal help?
i was at the hospital today because i was sick and we didnt know what was wrong with me, and i had to get a catheter because they wanted a urine sample. they had a really hard time getting it in and had to try about 5 different times because im so small and they were having a lot of trouble. well that was this morning at like 11 or so and its 5:22 now and I went pee a little bit ago and when i wiped there was some blood. is this normal, could it be from the catheter? please help me it wasnt gushing blood and there wasnt a ton but there was blood and it took me a few wipes before I didnt see any more. helppp
this was the first time i went pee since i got it this morning btw. because ive been sleeping all day

Answers:

Yes, it's probably caused by trauma to the area due to 5 different people trying to cath you! That is truly awful. Why didn't they just allow you to give a clean catch? What were you there for? Was the blood bright red, clots, or just streaks? If I had to guess by tomorrow you won't see any as its due to the cath. That sounds like a terrible experience and I'm sorry you had to go through that.

So, then yes I absolutely think that it's from the trauma with the way you described it. There is a certain technique to cathing women and if you don't do it all the time then it can be difficult. I'm guessing in a Dr's office they just weren't that skilled, because no matter how small I've never had trouble but I also work in women's health and cath all the time. They do need to figure out what's going on. But remember you are the patient and in control. You can ALWAYS decline something. If that ever happens again you can tell them no you would like to do try a clean catch first and if it comes back contaminated then you will allow the cath. But you do not have to do anything you don't want to.

I'm a nurse
