My brother gets sick every time he eats clams. This never happened when he was y!

Question: My brother gets sick every time he eats clams. This never happened when he was younger. How did this happen?
Lately when my brother eats clams, he throws up like crazy all night. It first happened when we went to Legal Sea Food and he ate raw clams. After he ate them, he had very bad stomach pains and he threw up all night. At first, he thought maybe the clams weren’t fresh and since they were raw, that might have been the cause of him getting sick. A few months later, we went to a different Legal Sea Food and he ordered fried clams this time. That night he got sick again. It was scary. I’ve never seen my brother react like this to food before.

And what’s weird is that he used to eat clams like crazy when he was younger and he NEVER got sick. He would eat raw clams at every seafood restaurant we go to, even Legal Sea Food, and he never had any bad reactions. But now suddenly he gets sick every time he eats them. It’s a shame too because my brother loves clams and now he’s afraid to eat them.

How did this happen? Did my brother suddenly develop an allergy or something?

Answers:

It may be that the clams in your area are from the same source that may have some contamination that he is sensitive towards. He may have developed a sensitivity / allergy to them after eating them raw so often. He can go to an allergist and be tested to see if this is the case.

It does sound like he's developed an allergy or intolerance to clams. This can begin in adulthood, even if he had no problems when he was younger. Given his horrible vomiting after eating them, it's best to avoid them.

While driving to my sister’s house for a family reunion I was privileged to stop at Cape May. I was blown away by the restaurants! I had a wonderful omelet at a quaint little place that offers the best home cooking I have ever eaten. They offer a wide variety of breakfast foods that will turn anyone into a morning person. Not to mention the welcoming atmosphere that seems to come from all the restaurants in Cape May. This was a little piece of heaven on my journey to my destination. I will be stopping by on my way back as well.
