I have a tounge tie but afraid clipping it will affect my speech?!

Question: I have a tounge tie but afraid clipping it will affect my speech?
I have had a tounge tie my whole life. Mine is severe, goes all the way to the tip. HOWEVER i have no problems with speech, never have.
Ive heard clipping it now will make me have to take speech classes and leaern to talk again, is this true?

Answers:

The real difference is that you'll have to figure out how much force to use to move your tongue like normal again. It won't require therapy if you've got the presence of mind and realize it will change how much force you need to use to move your tongue places.

If you're really worried about the tongue tie, clip it and see what happens. I doubt you'll need speech therapy, but you WILL have to learn how to move your tongue right after this.

Why on earth are you getting it clipped if it isn't causing a problem?
There is no medical reason for clipping when there is neither a speech or swallowing/chewing problem. If your doctor recommended clipping it, he/she's just dreaming up ways to make money.
