Free radicals kill all kinds of cells including brain cells. A good example are the Nigral cells that make up your grey matter in your brain. This group of cells sits at the top of your brain stem and these cells are white when you are born and by your 18th birthday, they turn grey. These cells are called Nigral Cells and you are born with about 400,000 of them. As you age, each year your body loses about 2,500 of them through normal cellular metabolism. After you lose about 250,000 of them, you develop the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. If you do the math, you will see that in 100 years, you will lose the 250,000 of them and now you can see why many people become unstable on their feet and have a little shake to their hands. The free radical OH- ion is one of the worst culprits that kill these cells. If you take drugs, like Ecstasy, you get a lot of free radicals that are killing these cells.
Once these cells are killed, you can't get any more. You get what you get when you are born and that's it, no more are made. So taking drugs creates free radicals, you get a little pleasure, but then you get the booby prize, BAD HEALTH. Many people die in their 70's in America and mostly of some disease due to eating bad food, taking drugs, etc. As you can see by doing the math again, they don't get the shakes because they die before all the nigral cells are killed off, but if you take drugs, you speed up this process and get the booby prize earlier in life.

It is NEVER a good idea to take drugs, both legal and illegal, unless you absolutely need them for a life or death situation.
