Is it possible I have anemia?!

Question: Is it possible I have anemia?
I'm in my teens and weigh 140 lbs. I'm not overweight, but I'm not stick thin either (I'm tall for my age- 5' 7") I'm a vegetarian, but I eat more vegan foods than I do vegetarian food. Like I drink rice milk rather than regular milk and I try to eat vegan when I can. I've noticed that my thumb nails have horizontal ridges, which I know is a symptom of anemia. Also, my hair falls out a LOT. About 1 out of 5 times I run my finger through my hair, at least one strand falls out. I take really good care of my hair and don't straighten it or anything so it couldn't be that. Lately I've been really tired, and I usually get between 6 and 9 hours of sleep (closer to 10 on weekends). I don't have much energy. And I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I sweat really hard when I do the slightest amount of exercise and I turn bright red even if I still have energy (like I said, don't know if that matters). My period is also really weird and I usually have it every 3 weeks but only for 2 days. My skin is really light, but I don't know if that's caused by anemia since my skin has always been fair. Could I be anemic?

Answers:

Sounds very much like anaemia, go to the doctors straight away.

Got tested for it once, did a bit of research on it.

Sounds to me that you need your thyroid checked. If you feel you anemic, look in the mirror and pull your eye lids down. If their really white, then yes you are. Try taking more iron. too. But get thyroid checked. You have to fast for the blood work, so save time and fast if you can get in to the dr.

You probably need more iron rich foods such as wheat germ and nuts.
