What is it when a person gets an itch-like feeling in their throat and can'!

It's ridiculous! It's when you have this itch feeling in your throat and you can't ignore it, it just makes it harder to breathe the more you ignore it. So in a matter of seconds after getting the feeling, you're violently hacking and the desire to cough your lungs up doesn't go away until you've hacked for like 1 minute straight. My eyes water and I can't even see straight or breathe! What is this???

Its a normal thing because I've seen it happen to others to. I just don't understand what it is
