how would someone lose their sense of smell?!

Question: How would someone lose their sense of smell?
I have noticed that little by little, I am just unable to smell really anything. I guess in third grade was when it first started to go away, because people would smell BO on the bus or something, and I would not be able to. Now that I am a sophomore in highschool, I cannot smell perfume, most food, flowers, clean/dirty clothes, or even if I have bad breath. However, I can smell some stuff, for example, fried food. there is a cooking class just outside of where my locker is at school, and everytime they make raised doughnuts or crescents, I can smell the cooking oil. and i can smell the grass right after it's mowed, but not as easily as I used to. What is happening, and how can I fix it!? Thanks so much

Well, I am not a doctor, but I do know that the hairs in your nose are how you smell things. Actually loss of smell is actually a common thing. See if you have a family history of it. That might help you to be able to determine what to do.
