I do meditation... but there are some techniques which take the 'heat' out of the body and removes the thing that is stopping you from sleeping. It absolutely works for me every time- as long as i actually get up and do it instead of just lying there.

You can learn it here http://www.freemeditation.com/

It's a course that you do online- at some point it shows you some clearing techniques, i don't know where because I learnt IRL- actually even just the meditation by itself often works.

good luck.

There are two specific ways I've learned to deal with it. One is to let yourself fall asleep whenever you get sleepy and don't force yourself to try to sleep if you aren't tired, do something else like read (people always say that, but if you don't like to read, just do something quiet that calms you [unlike watching television]), and your body will work out how much sleep you're meant to get. Or two make a sleep schedule where you either 1 - go to bed at the same time every night or 2 - wake up at the same time every morning (not both, because you really won't get any sleep). If you're like me, you're just wound up and constantly thinking and that makes it troublesome to fall asleep, but you've really got to find a way to relax at night or else you'll never get regular sleep.

insomniac. :\

It's wise of you not to take pills for insomnia. You might end up either relying on them or getting some negative side effects or even both!

I suffered from insomnia too in the past and I did tried meditation. it worked sometimes and didn't work at others. Then this friend of mine recommended brainwave entrainment audios. I used the "deep sleep" package and my sleeplessness has been greatly improved.

I know someone who sleeps 2 hours a night if she's lucky, and she's fine. I don't sleep for two nights, then I can sleep for a night, then I can't sleep again for two nights.

Drink warm milk, don't drink coffee, take pills, take herbal pills, don't eat after 6, and the best piece of advice you'll get is to man the f*ck up.

Control blood pressure problem if any ; this also gives less sleep.

The only thing that works for me is vodka.
