What foods can you eat when you're sick (& not just get sick from eatin!

Question: What foods can you eat when you're sick (& not just get sick from eating them)?
I went to the doctor today and he said i have a virus. i've heard people say that toast is good when someone's throwing up, but if i'm throwing up already i'll just get sick from the toast. when i get sick like this i throw up from just drinking half the time and all i can keep down is popcicles. which tonight i can only eat popcicles again. i tried eating a sub for supper (probably not the best choice when i'm sick..) but i couldn't even finish it before getting sick. i'm a vegetarian so it's tough to make chicken noodle soup.
as of right now, i'm guessing i should stay away from everything but popcicles for a while and try to sleep. but i'm asking this in case i end up staying home from school tomorrow and want to try eating but don't know what's a good choice when i'm sick. are there any foods that people should definitely stay away from when sick? i've heard citrusy things like oranges or orange juice aren't good for stomach aches.?
i got some medicine that's supposed to hopefully make this virus get over more quickly, but i don't want to keep making myself sick from eating things that don't help me keep down the medicine ha.

thanks!!

Basically anything you think you can keep down. People recommend soups and toast because they tend to be bland so it doesn't make you more quesy. I'm not a soup fan, and toast just doesn't work for me when I'm dehydrated, so I snack on fresh fruit. That way, your getting something in your stomach and getting hydrated from the fruit's water. Citrus fruits can be bad, especially if your vomitting alot because of the acid. I would suggest anything that sounds good to you, the main thing is to drink a lot of fluids so you don't get dehydrated. Hope this helped:)

It doesn't have to be CHICKEN noodle soup, you can just make regular soup without chicken. When I'm sick and hungry, I just eat crackers, they don't make me sick and I get a full stomach. You can eat as many crackers as you want without getting sick. Well thats all I can think of, hope it helps. (;

Saltines (soda crackers) are really good for that. Or goldfish. Ginger ale, Gatorade, apple sauce is a good one too. Some people eat pickles.. Ha cuz they're really high in electrolytes.

I've read that rice is easy on the stomach.

sip coke, sugarless tea and don't eat till you are hungry again

Go to webmd.com great site for your question. Thank you

well, at least you're keeping something down at the moment, even if it's only popsicles.

You're on the right track, I'd stick with the popsicles tonight and then if your feeling a little better in yourself tomorrow morning, experiment with a slice of dry toast. Then if you can keep that down, you can slowly introduce your body back to its regular routine.

If you throw that up, I'd popsicle my breakfast and lunch and try again with the toast in the afternoon.

The secret is here to introduce yourself to light & plain foods a little at a time, have a few bites of the toast and wait 10 minutes. Steer away from items with higher fat content like cheeses, butter/margarine & full cream milk. Steer away from snack foods too.

If you're still not able to tolerate solids this time tomorrow, I'd return to the doctors, as he may want to re-evaluate your virus and/or put you on something to help you keep food down.

Try not to worry, a day or so without solid food should not hurt you too much unless you've other health problems you've not divulged. Basically take your own advise and try and get some rest - and that goes for your tummy too.

I hope you're feeling better soon :-)
