How competitive is/will the radiology field be?!

Question: How competitive is/will the radiology field be?
I am a junior in high school, getting ready for college. I am just researching some careers that I am interested in, and this is my top choice (as of now). I know that a lot of medical careers are becoming more and more competitive, but is radiology especially competitive, or do you think it will be a few years from now, when I will actually be at the point? Thanks for any help! (:

Answers:

I think it's great that you're thinking about your future and career.

Radiology is moderately competitive but that doesn't matter: if you want it bad enough you'll get it! If you think you'll like working with technology and contributing to the diagnostic side of medicine, radiology will be good for you!

The field will be around for quite a while because doctors will always rely on the help of radiology for diagnostic medicine. I believe there are technical schools that train you for a career in this area. You should do a little more research and see where that takes you.

Good luck!

I once considered a career as a radiology technician.

Any specialty that offers regular hours and no emergency calls in the night are competitive. Add no patient interaction and therefore a minimal chance of getting barfed on, and you have a competitive field.
