Question: Is there a way to release endorphins...?
Using just your mind? I have a friend who's an avid runner and gym rat. She managed to break her left foot and her right ankle, so she's laid up for a while. Understandably, she's kinda depressed and missing the high she got, from running especially.

That stinks. Too bad for her. My advice is if she's your friend, do what you can to keep her mind in a positive dirrection. Get some entertainment to distract her like some good movies, games or even do like I did when I was a kid and sit together with pads of paper and doodle and make cartoons. I still do that with my brother and we're getting along in years. It's important to find ways to be happy apart from the exercise high. Life is wonderful and there are many other ways to be happy. Joy comes from within. Without getting weird here, but meditating on the energy centers in your body called the chakras is a way to tap into the energy flow known as the kundalini. It is meditations in this area that people can achieve bliss by activating the flower above the crown. But that usually takes time and practice but starting to learn is very rewarding in itself. Youtube has some basic information you could find. But I just tell you that to answer your question that there is an alternative way to be naturally high
