What would cause a lymph node to be swollen for more than a year?!

Question: What would cause a lymph node to be swollen for more than a year?
Ever since I got a throat infection and was treated with antibiotics for it (which over a year ago)...my one lymph node has stayed enlarged. It swells up and hurts everynow and then even if Im not sick. All of a sudden my lymph node is swollen (you can see that it is swollen), my neck muscles ache and Im not sure if my ear hurts as a side effect from the swollen lymph node or the other way around. I've never had an ear infection before and I think if I did my ear would hurt a lot worse. I don't know...Any ideas other than the age old cancer suggestion? I have no fever, no soar throat or runney nose, just an acheing sore lymph node.

your lymphatic system is a complex thing it runs all over your body I assume you are talking about the nodes in your neck and no where else. Have you gotten any other infections ? Swelling is a sign of irritation / inflamation in any body tissue and pain is telling you something is wrong. I would go to the doctor unless you have been hit in the neck recently. If it is visibly enlarged that sounds like their is something going on here it should not last a year. Make sure you tell the doctor that too. Sometimes people have to get their lymph nodes removed.

Where do u live???because it depends,
you may have a viral infection.
or tuberculosis.

You should go to the doctor because it could be a number of things.
