Fibromyalgia is basically long-term pain that can be all over the body, especially in the joints and muscles. Some of its other symptoms include fatigue, depression and anxiety issues, and sleeping problems as well. Often it is a side effect of dealing with emotional trauma, although there are other causes. It is usually treated with physical therapy and exercise, as well as anti-depressants, and patients are often also recommended to have some kind of behavioral therapy.

Chronic fatigue is when someone suffers from prolonged fatigue that is not relieved by sleep or rest. There are several theories as to what cause it. Some scientists and physicians believe it is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus or HHV-6 (a type of herpes virus), while others believe it's caused by inflammation of the nervous system. Another belief is that stress and genetics could be the culprit. People with CFS are often prescribed anti-depressants and it is usually recommended that they attend behavioral therapy and also learn sleep management techniques.

they both have symptoms of pain and fatigue

they think they are 2 separate conditions..but aren't sure...they may be the same thing

like there are 2 types of diabetes or different types of epilepsy

FMS is thought to have pain as the main symptom
CFIDS is thought to hav fatigue

FMS is NOT believed to be autoimmue
CFIDS might be autoimmune

Many people are diagnosed with both--but may actually only have 1 or the other.

It is misleading to say that FMS is related to emotional trauma..that is a component FOR SOME PEOPLE...it is belived that any significant stress--physical or emotional can trigger it-0-and stress can make it worse

FMS is treated with other meds like anti seizure..and the antidepressants are used off label ---not as a depression treatment....the latest Savella isn't even called an antidepressant

FMS can also have fatigue that is not relieved by rest.
