Automated audiometer testing machines are programmed to play sounds of different pitches at varying decibel levels, starting at the threshold of hearing for the average person but not going up so loud as to cause damage. The pitch and loudness are random so that people can't try to cheat the test, if they do try to cheat it the tester would recognise that the pattern shown by the responses was not consistent with either good or bad hearing but with someone trying to cheat the test. So there is not one set decibel level or pitch.
