Have you ever been misdiagnosed/under-diagnosed by a doctor?!

Question: Have you ever been misdiagnosed/under-diagnosed by a doctor?
Answers:

A few years ago I was sick for weeks and wasn't getting any better. I kept going to doctors (5 in total) who told me I had the flu and I just need to rest. I ended up getting so bad that I couldn't move and went to another doctor who asked me what I was doing sitting in his office because I needed to go to the ER immediately. I was only in my early 20's and had pneumonia really badly. One side of my lung collapsed and I spent 2 weeks in hospital. The doctors at the hospital were horrified that I had been to 5 doctors and not one of them diagnosed me properly. They said that if I had received the right treatment I wouldn't have gotten so sick. It took me a year for my lungs to get back to normal. It can be very hit and miss with doctors in my experience.

I not only get misdiagnosed, I get lied on in my face by the company doctor every month for about 13 times since last April. I had a spine injury and they still surprise me how much they love insurance people enough to lie and misdiagnosed me, accidents happen but sometimes a doctor is not looking in your best interest but to his own, watch the movie "Q". Lol I wrote all this sorry haha but its true.

Yes- I was underdiagnosed.

I went to my doctor as I hadnt had my period in over 6 months (No way I could be pregnant). he said it could possibly be Polycystic ovary syndrome or Endometriosis. He gave me no treatment what so ever as he said it didnt really matter that I wasnt getting my period.

I went another 3 months without my period, and after researching PCOS and endometriosis, I decided to go to another doctor (female this time) as I had most of the symptoms described in each.

She sent me for a ultrasound and blood test and I was diaognosed with PCOS. My new doctor immediately put me on the pill as one of the main problems that PCOS causes is infertility through not ovulating (not getting my period). So the pill is used so that I get my period every month to reduce my chances of becoming infertile.

So my orginal doctor definately underdiagnosed me- he basically didnt care I dont think. As he is a man, I dont think he really cares about "female stuff". My new female doctor was much more concerned than he was.

If you dont trust your doctors orginal decision than go to someone else. You may have to pay more money, but its worth it if it changes your life.

Many, many times. Like when I went to the doctor withmassive amounts of pain & blood in my urine. They said it was a bladder infection, it was really a kidney stone that dn near caused permanent damage. Or the time they nearly killed me with antibiotics for an infection I never had.

Personal experience!

yeah :D some times you can't explain so easy what you feel, and the doctor misunderstands (or some times the doctor is just stupid and understands completely different things from what you're telling him) and from one little mistake like that he can mess up your whole diagnose, give you wrong pills, make you worse etc..>.>

happened to me :D

Many, many times.
About four years ago I got really, REALLY sick. For about a year I went from doctor to doctor and they all said, "Nothing is wrong." "You're just depressed." "You're faking" until finally one day a nurse diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and gave me some medicine to take. I still ache all over but I no longer feel like i'm dying, and i'm so grateful to her :)

ya I went to the er and tons of doctors who told me they didnt know why my hands and legs felt tingly like there was no blood flow. I have anxiety I found the answer on the internet its because when you have anxiety your small veigns in your extremities constrict to give your organs more blood. They were completely baffled DOCTORS. Also my anxiety isnt caused by anxiety dissorder but was caused by hashitoxicosis which does cause anxiety but is root for a real medical condition. So much for all those years tons of doctors that pissed me off telling me it was all in my head. Since 06! Doctors are useless. I also had double ear infections in 06 that I have been given nasal spray for by ent doctors never helped and my ears still feel full and are popping still like there is fluid in there. Doctors suck period I hate them

Yes. I went in with an ear infection and I went out with a prescription for an anti-depressant. Needless t say, I never went back to that doctor again.

Ya for sometimes...

Yes, several times
