Can stomach ulcers act up randomly?!

Question: Can stomach ulcers act up randomly?
My mom has various ulcers in her stomach, and it causes her pain and nausea/vomiting when she gets nervous or stressed, or eats something spicy or acidic.
Well she just woke up and almost vomited, but has not been stressed that we know of.
She went back to sleep, but keeps waking up and you can tell she doesn't feel good.
I'm worried she may be sick?
Although no one we have been around is or has been sick recently.

So can the symptoms of a stomach ulcer occur randomly?
Do you absolutely have to be stressed or eat upsetting foods for them to act up?

They dont just act up. While it is true stress can cause ulcers. stress alone normally will not cause ulcers. The major/most common causes of ulcers is H. Pylori (if she does have ulcers, she needs to make sure it isnt H. Pylori b/c it can cause several types of gastic cancer), NSAIDS (like taking a bunch of advil), and drinking alot. also smoking.
Also, she will need to know if it is gastric or duodenal ulcer. you can tell by when the pain occurs. Gastric ulcers "normally" feel better after eating, while duodenal ulcers feel "worse" after eating (maybe opposite, maybe google it to confirm)
normally it is a combination of all of the above. Just make sure it isn't h. pylori. and if it is, just treat it with meds.
