About sleeping in intervals..?!

Question: About sleeping in intervals..?
I'm an architecture student and generally have an enormous amount of drafting, etc. to be done. Given my work/school schedule, I realized I lose potential work time because I sleep a regular 4-9 hours. Also, I feel pretty crappy if I have to stay up to finish a project all night, attempt to sleep a couple hours, wake up to feeling worse, and head out to school. I don't get as much done because my brain practically gives out after a few hours of focusing on one thing. So on that note, I intend to try out sleeping in intervals throughout my day. Is there a recommended set of intervals that I should go by? Example: four 2-hour naps; two throughout the day, two during night??

I know it's not all that recommended to do but I feel as though I may be more productive this way.

The problem is and I think you have that figured out is REM. The reason a nap works is because you are resting your body and your mind but you are still awake. If you go into REM and then wake out of it before you get the benefit you will feel terrible like you are hung over so two hour naps essentially will prevent you from ever benefiting from REM. Just thought of something. Do your own tests. Pick a game of skill and dexterity. Mine is Luxor2 on Yahoo. It is a simple game really but the spheres come at you more and more rapidly as the game progresses. If I have not had correct sleep I crash and burn. But if I am well rested I can go on and on. So as I said choose a game of skill which makes you think clearly. Try the sleep patterns you suggested and play. If you do your drafting there is too much unknown I am thinking. You should be able to come up with what works for you.

You betcha let us know how the experiment goes. This is very interesting stuff.
